Maria Petmesidou

Professor Democritus University of Thrace, GREECE

Maria Petmesidou is professor of Social Policy at the Democritus University of Thrace.

She is educated Dipl. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Dipl. University College London; Ph.D. Oxford University. She was earlier head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Crete.

She has published numerous articles in English journals and collective volumes on social policy and development issues in Greece and comparative social protection systems in Southern Europe. Her books include "Poverty & Social Deprivation in the Mediterranean - Trends, Policies & Welfare Prospects in the New Millennium" (CROP International Studies in Poverty Research, Zed Books, with Christos Papatheodorou).
