Poverty, Health and Justice
Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) is an international organization of scholars and teachers which aims to increase the impact of academics on global poverty through promoting and supporting collaboration, public outreach and policy intervention.
Thomas Pogge is Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs at Yale University and Chair of CROP Scientific Committee. He will present the international organization of scholars and teachers. ASAP members include moral and political theorists, economists, environmental scientists, public health experts, and scholars from a range of other disciplines.
A workshop to launch the network in Norway is planned in Oslo for September 3-4. Part of ASAP's current work is focused on developing a Global Poverty Consensus Report which will reflect an inclusive academic consensus on what ought and can be done to alleviate global poverty with a focus on the Millennium Development Goals successors.
At this seminar, Thomas Pogge will present these initiatives to academics and others interested in issues of global justice and poverty, focusing especially on the relationship between poverty and health and on the specific contributions philosophy can make to this initiatives.
