CROP Newsletter July 2012

The newsletter is a way of sharing with CROPNet, colleagues and friends the events and news that involved CROP during the first semester of 2012.

During this time a great deal of attention has been paid to the interaction between religion and politics in framing the discourse, action and inaction towards poverty. It includes the contribution by Enrique Dussel and other relevant colleagues over the series of events organized in April by CROP and partners (NorLARNet, UiB Global, among others) as well as the formation of a CROP Working Group on the relation between poverty and religion. These events aim at systematically exploring the multiple interactions between both concepts which are relatively less mapped out in our area of study.

Three significant calls for papers were launched during the period and two are still open, click on the links to access further information:

(i) CROP International Studies in Poverty Prize 2012, best manuscript will receive NOK 50,000: Deadline August 1

(ii) International Workshop Cape Town, Nov 22-24, Poverty and Politics in Middle Income Countries: Abstract deadline August 13

(iii) International Workshop Cairo, Egypt, Dec 10-12, The Political Economy of Poverty and Social Transformations of the Global South. Submission of abstract now closed, over 100 proposals was received by the deadline July 9.
