A major arena for research development provided by CROP is the CROP workshops.
These are regional workshops on issues in the front line of poverty research, as
well as topical workshops in relation to the CROP projects. The workshops serve
several purposes. New issues are explored, regional research becomes intensified,
new people may be enticed to chose poverty as a research field, and new ideas about
policy and research are being disseminated. Most of the workshops are collaborative
with other institutions, such as local universities, research organisations or
international organisations. For every workshop an international Programme Committee
is selected. The Committee members have academic qualifications related to the topic
of the workshop and have the gate-keeping power to define terms of participation and
acceptance of papers to be presented. The Committee also evaluates potential papers
before a publication is considered.
