Publishing on Development
PUBLIC EVENT: Round table and launch of new CROP-Zed book series
As the process around the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) comes to an end and the work with Sustainable Development Goals starts to pick up, CROP has invited two experience editors and a specialist in communication to discuss the challenges the book industry, the universities, and research institutions face to publish and disseminate research on poverty and development, like:
- Have the MDGs process produced a change in traditional patterns of “supply and demand" of knowledge on development?
- What are the “must-haves" for “ideal" manuscripts from the publisher's point of view?
- Are research institutions currently providing the type of knowledge that is needed for New Development Agenda – according to the publishers?
Zed Books is an independent academic publisher with a reputation for cutting‐edge international publishing. Over the next two years, the CROP-Zed International Studies in Poverty Series will publish ten books containing Southern and Northern perspectives aiming to provide a better understanding of poverty as well as the conditions for its eradication and prevention.
This event will have two additional purposes; First, CROP-Zed International Studies in Poverty Series will be launched. Second, CROP, together with Zed Books, will formally announce a call for new manuscripts for the CROP International Studies in Poverty Prize 2014.
Speakers:
- Kim Walker, Commissioning Editor at Zed Books, London. She is responsible for publications within the fields of Development Studies, Gender Studies, Middle East Studies, Asian Studies and Environment.
- Jakob Horstmann, Publishing Consultant based in London. He has many years of experience as a managing editor Former Commissioning Editor at Zed Books (London).
